Another innocent !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! black man shot by police (thankfully he lived...).
More protests that sadly turned violent/destructive (two killed).
My fear is that continued incidents like these will actually make it more likely that Trump will be re-elected... Fear is a powerful force, and the events of last night played right into the hands of th ose attempting to sow anxiety in the hearts of the American people.
This is how dictatorships begin...
This is from a 2013 article:
Bad economic policies and foreign policies can cause crises that have dangerous political consequences.
Politicians commonly demand arbitrary power to deal with a national emergency and restore order, even though underlying problems are commonly caused by bad government policies.
In hard times, many people are often willing to go along with and support terrible things that would be unthinkable in good times.
Those who dismiss the possibility of a dictatorial regime in America need to consider possible developments that could make our circumstances worse and politically more volatile than they are now – like runaway government spending, soaring taxes, more wars, inflation and economic collapse.
Aspiring dictators sometimes give away their intentions by their evident desire to destroy opponents.
There’s no reliable way to prevent bad or incompetent people from gaining power.
A political system with a separation of powers and checks & balances – like the U.S. Constitution – does make it more difficult for one branch of government to dominate the others.
Ultimately, liberty can be protected only if people care enough to fight for it, because everywhere governments push for more power, and they never give it up willingly.

Also, I’ll pass on the bullets, but I can understand the desire for them these days.
Sometimes its comforting to feel like you’re trying to be proactive, even if it doesn’t mean shit in the end.

Here is what I read on BBC.com, There was “an open arrest warrant against Mr Blake on sexual assault and domestic abuse charges” . I do not want to shame Mr Blake but I mention it as it does explain why he wasn’t cooperative with the officers and was attempting to leave by any means necessary. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53917170
And it leads to this question. If 0.1% of the attempted detentions of wanted people leads to events such as this, what do we want street police to do when the wanted suspect does not voluntarily cooperate in their apprehension?
Let everybody go?

Thanks for clarifying. I thought he was innocent in the situation that brought police there, but I’m not 100% certain of that either. The fact that his kids were in the car also adds deep sadness to this whole situation.
If they were going to detain him, and legally had the right to do so
, t
he officers should have used force to prevent him from re-entering his car, just not deadly force...
![]() 08/26/2020 at 14:30 |

If you’re a grown man, and you can’t detain an unarmed man without shooting them in the back several times, maybe law enforcement isn’t the right career for you.
Bringing someone in just to be arraigned should not result in them being shot.

Even more crazy is when you read about the kid that killed the two protesters. He’s 17, lives in Illinois (so not from Kenosha at all), joined up with a “militia” with an illegal firearm, then killed two and injured one. The cops seemed to be okay with the militia, but clearly didn’t want the militia killing people.
Currently he’s being charged with murder.
![]() 08/26/2020 at 14:34 |
|
It’s even worse than that. Since he’s 17 and therefore not legally able to own a gun, that rifle definitely belongs to someone else . And since he isn’t even a resident of Wisconsin he had even less reason to be there in the first place.

I haven’t watched the video, just like I don’t actively watch fighter gun camera films, fatal race wrecks, etc. They are all just sad. So I can’t judge this event.
I do try to be sympathetic to any officer who is attempting to not take the first bullet while doing their duty. However I am just as sympathetic with Floyd, Blake, and the victim in St Louis. None of those guys wanted to be arrested and t he result is d ead men , burned cities and the police officers in jail for likely years.
I think officers will get the message and the next time a perp tries to run, more and more they will let him go. My cousin shoots with a now retired NYC officer. The officer is retired because a perp broke his back in a struggle. When my cousin asked the officer what would he do with an angry crowd that is looting and rioting, he said today he would “just smile and wave”. I am afraid to say I think we better get used to it.
By the way, isn’t that what happened in downtown Chicago during their riots a couple of weeks ago ?

Sadly he lives somewhat local to me. Kid was a part of the explorer program with his town’s PD and apparently has claimed a few times to be an off duty police officer from the sheriff’s department . Oof. Illegal gun aside, he doesn’t have a good look. But there is video suggesting someone hit him with a skateboard first, so maybe he’ll get off on self defense.
![]() 08/26/2020 at 15:38 |

I usually avoid them, too...
Yes, it’s terribly hard to judge a person’s actions after the heat of the moment, but it’s hard not to look at this incident as another instance of police using unnecessary force. Blake clearly acted unwisely by not listening to the police officer’s directions, and I feel that perhaps the officers’ training failed them in this instance, in that all immediately went to pulling guns and shouting instead of one or two of them just physically restraining him or blocking the door to the car . As soon as a gun is drawn, the probability of it being used is far too high...
Police officers are absolutely being put in a terrible position right now (damned if they do, damned if they don’t). My co-worker’s husband is leaving the force after a decade, in no small part due to all of these events.
It’s a vicious cycle, in the truest sense of the phrase.

I see it getting worse, then about mid-September or early October calls for “martial law” and Trump signing yet another executive order to detain and arrest protesters and looters, handing carte-blanche to the police. Then, he turns around and says “Look at what I did! I made the streets safer by taking the restraints off our boys in blue, and letting them crack down on these thugs!”
Boom, the Trump voter base is energized right before the election, the do-nothing, fence-sitting White people who worry more about a protest march blocking the road to the Walmart
(however unlikely that may be) than about, uh, human fucking rights for people who aren’t them, will swing towards the new “law-and-order” stance that Trump just took, and there it is... FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS. Four more years of this shit.
Can’t believe the Dems picked Biden... way to throw a fight, dipshits.

I am no expert, but it sounds like the police gave him as much leeway as they could, by NOT using force until the last possible moment... They let him get all the way to the point where he was reaching into a vehicle which could easily result in him obtaining a weapon there.
One might argue they should have used more non-lethal force earlier to subdue the suspect before he got to the point of reaching into his vehicle, where his children were.
Would riots and looting have erupted if he did grab a weapon, and fire on the police officers, and wound or kill them instead?
Not obeying lawful commands of law enforcement is a stupid game to play, whether police are wrong or right. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Fight in court after the arrest. Better yet, be a good citizen, and not a repeat offender who beats and sexually assaults people, and not get into that position in the first place...
I don’t support corruption, and corrupt police are a serious problem that should be dealt with just as harshly as aggravated criminal activity.
But criminal activity is not excused, be it an abusive person, or murderous and destructive rioters...
What’s next? drinking poison to prevent catching Covid? It makes about the same amount of sense as murder, arson, destruction, and rioting in reaction to any police use of force, justified or not.

I agree with the tweet, this is a resulting trait of what has happened previously , not an instigating event.
Just as political corruption follows societal and cultural decay, not the other way around.
What I don’t agree with is the leap of logic that it cannot be fixed, or the concept that any “system” can correct itself. Of course not, that is a false premise.
But people encompass the system, the system only appears to encompass the people.
Moral, peaceful, compassionate, and truthful people can fix this, by returning the system to it’s proper role, and confining it there, and not expecting the “system” to be perfect, or to provide everything to everyone to the result of equivalent outcome.
That isn’t anything ANY system can do, or should be requested or expected to do, and to try it, is to court corruption and failure.
PEOPLE do, and people organize themselves into organizations and institutions, (referred to as “the system” ) to perform specific functions in society, within rules and enumerated duties to ensure law and order for peaceful interaction.
Without law and order, peace cannot succeed, because in a power vacuum, might makes right, and warlords, tyrants, and corruption rises. That is what happens when “the system” gets torn down by people who give up on keeping law and order, and the resulting peace.

I suspect the parents are frothing at the mouth about the gangs of looters and thugs set to head out and terrorize their distant suburbs - probably not Biden or Berniebros lol. The kid probably didn’t learn it on his own or randomly pick it up online. I don’t know about the legalities, but their parenting should be reviewed.
Sad thing, the kid’s life is messed up now, even if a corrupt judge sets him free. There’s going to be a target on him. A certain regime is probably looking to appoint him to a cabinet position.
Someone lurking out there is really hurt for some reason. Must be another wannabe “militia” member looking for an excuse to shoot someone disguis ed by being “hired” to “protect property”.

It’s funny to me (sad really) how everyone here seems to talk about this guy as a ‘poor kid’ when he took an AR15, drove to the neighboring state and went onto the streets to cause trouble.
That’s the definition of a thug, in my book.
May he rot in prison.

He went looking for a fight and found it, yet is somehow the victim. It’s that logic of the so-called right that I just can’t grasp.
He might be safer in solitary than in many other places. This is the kind of thing that follows someone around, and maybe it should. His arrogance claimed a couple lives.
